Cameron Stanley, Director of the Pentagon's Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office, made striking claims about the artificial intelligence model developed by Elon Musk's company xAI in a sworn statement submitted during a case at the US Northern District Court of Mississippi.
In his statement, Stanley indicated that the Pentagon benefits from the system called Grok Gov Model developed by xAI. He argued that the system is tailored to the needs of the US government and possesses features not found in other AI models.
Military Applications Explained
Stanley's statement noted that the Grok model is integrated into the AI-supported command and data analysis platform Maven Smart System, developed by the Pentagon and Palantir.
The statement conveyed that this integration is used in target identification, intelligence activities, military planning processes, and logistics planning stages.
Stanley also cited the Epic Rage Operation as an example of its use within the Department of Defense, stating that the Maven platform targeted 2,000 separate points with over 2,000 munitions within 96 hours.
Previous Claims Regarding Iran Operations
A March report by The Washington Post also claimed that the Pentagon used Anthropic’s Claude model along with the Maven Smart System when planning attacks against Iran.
The report suggested that the Maven system identified potential targets in Iran with advanced AI technology and provided their exact locations.
The same report alleged that the system was used in the military operation to bring Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to the US.
The statement included in the court case has reignited discussions about the extent to which the US uses AI tools in military and intelligence fields.
