Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf argued that trust in the ongoing agreement process with the US has been damaged following Israel's attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut and areas in the south of the country.
In a statement from his account on the US-based X platform, Qalibaf said Israel's attacks on Dahieh show that Washington either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or does not have the power to do so.
Qalibaf stated that the 'good cop, bad cop' games are over, and if there is neither the will nor the capacity to fulfill commitments, then there can be no talk of continuing the negotiation process.
Iranian commander vows response
A similar assessment came from Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi, Deputy Chief of Inspection of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the unit of the Iranian Armed Forces that conducts war.
In a statement to Fars News Agency, Asadi said Israel's attacks on the Dahieh area of Beirut will not go unanswered.
At least eight people were reported killed in Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon.
The attacks in the region have hardened the messages of Iranian officials directed at both the US and Israel. While Qalibaf's statement highlighted doubts about the negotiation process, Asadi's remarks kept the expectation of a military response on the agenda.
