Speaking at a press conference in Havana, Cuban Foreign Minister Rodríguez alleged that the United States was seeking to influence the positions of member states ahead of a vote in the United Nations General Assembly.
Rodríguez accused the United States of imposing embargoes that target the daily lives of the Cuban people. He argued that the United States was using its military, nuclear, economic and technological power to maintain unrelenting pressure on a peaceful country.
Rodríguez accuses US of pressure ahead of UN vote
Criticizing Washington's stance toward member states, Rodríguez alleged that the United States had violated the United Nations Charter and international law. The Cuban foreign minister said threats of sanctions and blackmail were being used to influence countries' sovereign will.

Rodríguez said the economic, trade and financial embargo, which he said had continued for decades, was not merely a political measure. He described the policy as a systematic blockade targeting the daily lives of the Cuban people and their right to development.
Rodríguez also alleged that the US administration had distributed documents containing threats to governments and United Nations missions. He claimed that US officials had asked some countries that did not want to vote against Cuba to abstain or refrain from entering the voting hall.
