In Missouri, a suspect resorted to an unusual method to flee police, diving headfirst off a bridge into a lake. Video footage released by the Stone County Sheriff's Office shows 26-year-old Gavin Thor Lundgren running across a two-lane bridge before plunging into the waters of Table Rock Lake.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 18. Police spotted a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu traveling at about 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. The driver, Lundgren, failed to stop and fled, then abandoned the vehicle and jumped off the bridge.
The sheriff's office said in a statement, "This was definitely a first, and fortunately he survived the fall. He resisted during the arrest and sustained minor injuries while our deputies took him into custody."
Lundgren faces charges of third-degree assault on a special victim, resisting arrest for a felony, resisting arrest by fleeing, and careless driving. Three officers were injured during the arrest; the suspect reportedly headbutted two officers. The officers suffered facial bruising, cuts and abrasions on their hands, elbows and forearms.
Gavin Thor Lundgren is being held without bond at the Stone County Jail.
