A war powers bill aimed at ending attacks on Iran passed the US House of Representatives by a vote of 220-204.
The bill, introduced by Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, directs Trump to withdraw military forces from the region. Seven of the 220 House members who supported the bill were Republicans.
Meeks criticizes the Trump administration
Democratic Representative Gregory Meeks, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a written statement that the Trump administration had failed to achieve the goals it announced regarding tensions that had continued for nearly 200 days.
Meeks criticized rising fuel prices, inflation and government spending, saying this was the third War Powers bill passed by Congress with the aim of ending the war.
Meeks said the US president should end the war and work multilaterally toward a diplomatic solution that would ease tensions by opening the Strait of Hormuz. He also called for diplomats to be assigned to the process instead of real estate developers.
