Three people aboard a speedboat allegedly involved in drug trafficking were killed in a U.S. military operation in the Caribbean on Wednesday.
U.S. Southern Command said the operation was conducted by the Western Hemisphere Joint Task Force and that the boat operated along "established drug-trafficking routes."
The command claimed that intelligence showed the boat was actively involved in drug trafficking. The statement described the three people aboard as "drug terrorists."
Operations in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific
Since last September, the U.S. military has conducted operations against boats allegedly linked to drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean.
Following the latest operation, the number of such operations announced by the U.S. military rose to at least 69. At least 205 people have died in these operations.
