US President Donald Trump announced a plan for South Korea to invest $200 billion in energy and strategic projects in the United States. The package, announced Wednesday, includes nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas and natural gas infrastructure.
Trump said the investment decision was made during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
Nuclear reactors and the Alaska LNG project
The nuclear energy component of the plan is expected to receive $120 billion. The program calls for the construction of eight large nuclear reactors in the United States.

Trump said the investments are covered by the $350 billion Korea Strategic Trade and Investment Agreement he signed with Lee last year.

The United States and South Korea also agreed to cooperate on a $50 billion LNG project in Alaska. Trump said the project would bring transformative change for the people of Alaska.
The investment package also includes a $22 billion natural gas plant planned for Encinal, Texas. The plant’s capacity was announced as 6.4 gigawatts.
Trump said the investments linked to the trade agreements would develop into major construction projects and create tens of thousands of American jobs.
