US President Donald Trump issued a harsh statement, holding the Canadian government responsible for the air pollution reaching the US from wildfires in Canada. Trump claimed that this situation cost the US billions of dollars.
In a statement on social media, Trump said Canada was not properly managing its forests and brush. Stating that "they are causing dirty, polluting, and health-damaging air to unnecessarily enter the US," Trump stressed that the air quality was "dangerous and unacceptable." He said the damage caused by the wildfire smoke was "incalculable."

Trump asserted that Canada had "abandoned basic forest management and trash cleanup," which had become "deliberate negligence repeated every year." Noting that this negligence cost the US billions of dollars, Trump argued that the costs of combating pollution should be added to the tariffs already paid by Canada.

Call to Canadian Prime Minister
The US President also announced that he would call Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to find out what measures the Ottawa government planned to take.
Smoke Blankets the US
Smoke from hundreds of wildfires burning in Canada reached the northeastern US, degrading air quality in many regions. It advanced into southern New York state, blanketing Manhattan and surrounding areas, and reports said the dense smoke made sunlight almost invisible.
