U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he has decided not to take the salary that comes with the presidency, adding that he had also given it up during his first term. Asked rhetorically whether he had received any thanks for the decision, Trump answered himself: “No.”

U.S. law sets the president’s annual salary at $400,000. During his first term, Trump donated his quarterly paychecks to various federal agencies, including the National Park Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Trump first pledged not to accept the presidential salary during his 2016 campaign and returned to the White House for a second term in January 2025.
