US President Donald Trump announced on social media that he had received assurances from the Chinese and Russian leaders that they would not sell weapons to Iran.
Trump said that during a meeting in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping told him that he would not give or sell weapons to Iran under any circumstances, and that this also applied to Chinese companies. "Considering our relationship, I trust his word. Besides, I am doing him very big favors," he said.
Trump noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin also conveyed to him that he would not sell weapons to Iran, "despite the terrible war ongoing in Ukraine." Trump added, "(Putin) knows I sell weapons to NATO countries, not to Ukraine."
Trump stressed that NATO countries pay full price and that he has "no idea" how these weapons are distributed. "Although it is often mentioned, I think the two big countries are not involved in this (arms sales to Iran). If they were, it would be very bad for them. It would definitely not be in their interest," he said.
