U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled a new aircraft gifted to the presidential fleet by Qatar. Speaking at a ceremony in a hangar at Joint Base Andrews, Trump described the plane as 'the world's most luxurious aircraft' and a 'flying White House.'
Luxury Details and Performance
Trump stated the aircraft is worth hundreds of millions of dollars and is expected to replace one of the aging presidential fleet planes. The plane is reported to feature leather seats, high-quality carpets, wood paneling, and wall decorations in beige, light brown, and gold tones.
The President also emphasized the aircraft's performance capabilities, claiming it can fly farther and faster than previous Air Force One models. The plane has a new color scheme: dark blue on the bottom, white on top, with a red stripe in the middle.
Reactions and Future Plans
Qatar's gift has sparked debate in the U.S. due to ethical, constitutional, and security concerns. Trump has previously defended accepting the gift, saying it would be 'foolish' to refuse.
Trump said the new aircraft is expected to participate in a flight demonstration during the U.S.'s 250th Independence Day celebrations on July 4th. He added that the plane could be transferred to a presidential library after his term ends.
This unveiling comes as delays and cost overruns continue in the delivery of the new generation of presidential aircraft manufactured by Boeing.
