Donald Trump said he would personally take over funding for the $20 million campaign following criticism over the use of taxpayers’ money for the advertisements.
In a statement on his Truth Social account, the U.S. president described the advertisements as a positive portrayal of the United States. Trump argued that financing such content with government resources was customary, but said he had nevertheless decided to change the payment arrangement.
The campaign, titled “Patriotic Ads,” features advertisements voiced by Trump. The ads convey messages that the United States is fighting socialism and communism and that American manufacturing has been revitalized under Trump’s administration.
In one of the advertisements, Trump’s voice says that he and his supporters will “free” the country from his political opponents and members of the press. Trump also said he would use money raised for MAGA Inc. to finance the campaign.
