According to a Bloomberg report, U.S. President Donald Trump's financial disclosure shows he earned at least $1.4 billion from cryptocurrency projects last year. The 927-page financial filing, published by the U.S. Office of Government Ethics on June 30, 2026, revealed that cryptocurrency was Trump's largest source of income.
Breakdown of Crypto Income
According to Bloomberg's calculations, Trump's crypto income consisted of the following items:
- Approximately $594 million from World Liberty Financial, a venture co-founded by Trump and his sons,
- $636 million from a meme coin project bearing the Trump name,
- $197 million from the sale of shares related to Stablecoin HoldCo.
The majority of these earnings came from one-time token sales and equity stake transfers; they do not constitute recurring operating profit. For comparison, Coinbase, the most profitable publicly traded cryptocurrency exchange in the U.S., reported a net income of $1.26 billion last year.
Administration's Moves
Trump's crypto earnings coincided with a series of supportive steps by his administration toward the digital asset sector. In July 2025, Trump signed the GENIUS Act, regulating stablecoin issuers, thereby implementing the first federal stablecoin framework. The White House stated that the law mandates stablecoins be backed 100% by liquid assets and requires monthly reserve reporting.
In February 2025, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) dropped its lawsuit against Coinbase. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce said the decision reflects an approach to regulating the crypto industry through rulemaking rather than enforcement. In October 2025, Trump pardoned Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance; Zhao had pleaded guilty in 2023 to violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act.
Market Volatility
Trump's large earnings stand in contrast to a sharp sell-off in the crypto market in October 2025. According to CoinGlass data, over $19 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated within 24 hours on October 10, 2025. Bloomberg reported that some companies were severely affected by this wave, with mining firms pivoting to artificial intelligence and exchanges experiencing declining trading volumes incurring losses. Strategy, linked to Michael Saylor, recorded a $3.8 billion loss following a drop in Bitcoin's price. Tokens linked to Trump's own projects were also far from their peaks: the meme coin lost more than 95% of its value, while the World Liberty token fell by 75%.
When asked about allegations that he benefited from the presidency, Trump responded by saying he was wealthy even before being elected. The White House has repeatedly emphasized that Trump's family is not involved in managing the crypto projects and that there is no conflict of interest.
