Turkey's women's national volleyball team defeated Canada 3-1 in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) quarterfinal to book their place in the semifinals. After losing the first set 22-25 at the East Asian Games Dome in the Macau Special Administrative Region, the Crescent-Stars took control in the next three sets, winning 25-21, 25-21, and 25-17 to secure the victory.

The national team then took a 19-18 lead in the critical moments and won the set 25-21 with blocking performances from Hande Baladın and Zehra Güneş. Player and coach comments
Speaking to an AA reporter after the match, Hande Baladın said, "Canada is a strong team. These kinds of matches are always tough. We had a few too many simple errors in the first set, and we were aware of that. We wanted to reduce our errors and use our middle blockers more effectively, and we succeeded."
National middle blocker Sinead Jack Kısal also said, "Canada is a strong team, but our unity on the court today helped us win. The next match will also be tough, but we will give everything."
Head coach Daniele Santarelli emphasized the importance of reaching the semifinals, saying, "This summer I said, 'I want more now.' I expected more from my players. I saw that their attitude was very good; they are smiling, working hard, and staying positive. Tactically, we did a really good job."
Canada coach praises Turkey
Canada's national team coach Giovanni Guidetti said he was proud of his players, adding, "I congratulate Turkey; they have great experience in these kinds of matches. We kept our game at a very high level until the third set. Then Vargas took over with her serves and attacks, and we couldn't stop her."
On Turkey's chances in the tournament, Guidetti commented, "I think Turkey has a high chance of winning the tournament. When you have an opposite hitter like Vargas, of course you play to win everything. Vargas is in great form, so I believe Turkey can win the tournament."
Sixth semifinal appearance
Turkey reached the semifinals for the sixth time in the VNL, which has been held since 2018, marking their eighth consecutive appearance in the final round. In the tournament hosted by China, the Crescent-Stars' semifinal opponent will be the winner of the match between the USA and China. The semifinal will be played on Saturday, July 25.
