The UK Embassy in Washington conveyed its concerns to the White House about communications between UK Prime Minister Burnham and a person impersonating Trump’s chief of staff, Wiles.
Burnham allegedly exchanged several messages with the person after entering the Prime Minister’s Office. The messages were considered insignificant, but the matter was reported to the relevant authorities as soon as they were deemed suspicious.
Burnham later reportedly suspected that the person he had been communicating with was not genuine.
Prime Minister’s Office makes no statement
The UK Prime Minister’s Office, 10 Downing Street, said it does not comment on national security matters.
The White House also declined to comment on the incident.
US investigation launched over similar incident
The White House and the FBI launched an investigation last year after senators, governors and US businesspeople received messages and phone calls from a person claiming to be Trump’s chief of staff.
