Türkiye's reconstruction of the region devastated by the Feb. 6, 2023 earthquakes has drawn coverage in the U.S. press, with USA TODAY and Business Insider reporting on the 455,357 independent units completed in the quake zone, along with work on infrastructure, schools, commercial areas and historic city centers, Anadolu Agency reported.
The reports highlighted that foundations for the first permanent homes were laid 15 days after the disaster and that the first village houses were delivered on day 45. At the peak of construction, about 200,000 people worked at 3,481 sites, and the pace reached 23 homes an hour, or about 550 a day.
According to Türkiye's Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry, the units built across the 11 affected provinces include 367,995 homes, 65,672 village houses and 21,690 workplaces. Hatay received the most, with 153,755 units, followed by Malatya and Kahramanmaraş. The final homes were handed over at a ceremony in Hatay on Dec. 27, 2025.
The twin earthquakes of Feb. 6, 2023, centered in Kahramanmaraş, killed more than 50,000 people in Türkiye and left millions homeless.
