US Vice President JD Vance announced that significant progress has been made in the negotiations with Iran in Switzerland and a solid foundation has been laid for a successful final agreement.
Vance stated that the Iranians have not withdrawn from the negotiating table and that their technical teams continue to work in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.
Strait of Hormuz and Energy Markets
The US Vice President stated that the Strait of Hormuz is "open" and that oil and natural gas prices have begun to fall. Vance said millions of barrels of crude oil and natural gas have begun to flow through the strait.
Vance also noted that work is ongoing to establish a coordination center for clearing mines in the strait.
International Atomic Energy Agency and Frozen Assets
Vance emphasized that the Iranian side has accepted the redeployment of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors, calling it a "significant milestone".
Vance stated that the release of frozen Iranian assets has received approval from the US and Qatar, explaining that these funds will be used to purchase US soybeans, corn, and wheat for the benefit of the Iranian people.
Situation in Lebanon
Vance confirmed that Lebanon's territorial integrity and sovereignty must be preserved. Vance expressed that ensuring Israel's security requires great effort.
The US Vice President added that proper coordination must be done with the Lebanese Armed Forces and Iran's influence over Hezbollah must be restrained.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghi had previously announced in a statement that significant progress was made in the talks in Switzerland aimed at ending Israel's war on Lebanon.
The negotiations, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, were attended by US Vice President JD Vance and, from the Iranian side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghi.
