The Trump administration is preparing a $2.8 billion munitions sale to Israel. The Washington Post reported that the package could be one of the largest one-off munitions deals in recent years.
The U.S. administration has approved the sale of 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. The package includes bombs weighing approximately one ton each.

Penetrator warheads also included in the package
The package is also expected to include 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator armor-piercing warheads. MK-84 bombs have been repeatedly used by Israel in Gaza and have a highly destructive impact.
An informal notification about the sale has been sent to Congress. The formal notification is expected shortly, and the agreement is expected to pose a genuine test for Democrats.
U.S. official declines to comment on the agreement
An unnamed U.S. official said that all foreign arms sales are subject to existing procedures. The official said they do not comment on agreements that have not yet been finalized.
In 2025, the Trump administration also approved a $2.04 billion arms sale to Israel, bypassing congressional review. The decision sparked debate among Democrats and Republicans.
