U.S. President Donald Trump's speech texts are at the center of serious allegations against a White House staffer. Gabriel Perez, who served as the teleprompter operator for many years, is accused of running bets on the President's speech texts on a betting platform.
Perez joined the White House staff in 2016, during Trump's first presidential term. He is now facing legal proceedings over the allegations.
The betting site's lawyer Robert Deno announced in a social media statement that the bets allegedly opened by Perez are being examined and that all relevant information has been forwarded to the authorities.
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt made an official statement on the matter at a press conference. Leavitt announced that Gabriel Perez has been placed on unpaid leave over the allegations. The spokesperson also said that President Trump described the incident as 'extremely sad and embarrassing'.
