A large-scale search has been launched for a suspect after a woman was sexually assaulted and an attempted burglary at a home near Tucson, Arizona. The Pima County Sheriff's Office announced that the incident occurred at a residence on West Vegas Drive at 2:40 a.m. Monday, when the attacker entered through an unlocked door, physically and sexually assaulted the woman inside, then attempted to rob the home before fleeing.
The location of the incident is about 50 kilometers from the Catalina Foothills home of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of NBC's 'Today' show, where her 84-year-old mother Nancy Guthrie went missing on February 1. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told Fox News Digital that there is no connection between the two incidents.
The sheriff's office reported that the suspect is a Hispanic or white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin build, with graying facial hair, and was last seen wearing an oversized green shirt. As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made.
The investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is ongoing by the FBI and the sheriff's office. FBI Director Kash Patel claimed that a four-day delay in the bureau's involvement in the investigation may have led to the loss of critical video evidence, and accused the sheriff's office of excluding the FBI. Sheriff Nanos denied the allegation, stating that the FBI was immediately notified and that they are working together.
In the Guthrie case, authorities estimate that the unidentified person seen outside the home is between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.
The sheriff's office asked residents in the area where the attack occurred to check their home security cameras or surrounding footage. They urged anyone with information to call 911 or the 88-CRIME tip line.
