84-year-old U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell has returned home after treatment at a rehabilitation center. McConnell said he would continue his recovery at home and keep following Senate proceedings.
McConnell said he would follow an intensive physical therapy program at home during the session, on the recommendation of his doctors. The Republican senator from Kentucky will also continue communicating with his staff and colleagues about important Senate matters.
McConnell fell in June and briefly lost consciousness during the incident. He was taken to a hospital, later transferred to a rehabilitation center and treated for pneumonia during the same period.
After missing Senate votes for seven weeks following his hospitalization, McConnell became the longest-serving party leader in the history of the U.S. Senate. He is expected to retire when his term ends in January.
