US President Donald Trump announced that negotiations with Iran will resume on Monday, August 3. Trump expressed optimism that an agreement could be reached regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's denuclearization.
Speaking to reporters on the presidential plane, Trump said negotiations would resume after the decision to call off a previously planned military operation. Trump stated that talks with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran led him to drop the "large-scale attack" that had been planned for this weekend.
"It would have been the largest attack since World War II. But they asked us not to do it. They said, 'Please don't do this.' Their neighbors said the same thing."
Trump said, "We are negotiating with them right now. They will start tomorrow afternoon, and then we'll see what happens." The US President also added that he very much wants to reach an agreement and "save many people's lives."
"Frankly, Saudi Arabia also did not want this. They think an agreement will be reached very soon on the Strait of Hormuz and, ultimately, the denuclearization of Iran."
