Actress Angelina Jolie has shared before-and-after images of the Gaza Strip, calling for shelter, humanitarian aid and medical supplies to reach civilians as winter approaches. "You can now open Google Earth and see what was done to Gaza," she wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday.
The post includes three Google Earth comparisons: an area near the Al-Qadisiyah School in Rafah and the city of Khan Yunis, each seen in 2022 and 2026, and Omar Mukhtar Street in Gaza City in 2023 and 2026. "Whole neighbourhoods have been reduced to rubble. Homes, schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and sanitation systems, infrastructure that people depended on to survive have been damaged or destroyed," Jolie wrote.

"The needs are known"
Citing UN satellite analysis, Jolie said that as of June 16, 2026, 82% of Gaza's structures had been damaged, and roughly two-thirds of those damaged structures were assessed as destroyed. As winter approaches, she added, 1.98 million people, or 94% of Gaza's population, need shelter assistance and essential items, while aid and shelter materials "continue to face restrictions and delays."

"Google Earth shows the physical destruction with extraordinary clarity. What it cannot show is what it means to live among it, what happened to the families who were killed, and what life is like for those who survived," she wrote. "People need shelter before winter. Humanitarian aid needs to reach civilians at the scale required. Hospitals need medical supplies."
Jolie, who worked with the UN refugee agency UNHCR for more than 20 years before stepping down in 2022, tagged the accounts of the UN humanitarian office OCHA and the aid organization INARA in the post. "The destruction is visible. The needs are known. What matters now is whether they are met," she concluded.
Anadolu Agency also reported on the satellite images shared by the former UN Special Envoy, noting that Jolie said nearly 2 million people are currently displaced and called for shelter, humanitarian aid and medical supplies to be delivered to Gaza before the arrival of winter.
