Artificial intelligence company Anthropic recorded a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a draft prospectus for the company's planned initial public offering.
Most of the loss did not involve cash leaving the company. About $72 billion, nearly 90% of the total, stemmed from accounting charges tied to convertible notes and other financial instruments rather than from the cost of running the business.

Revenue up sharply
Revenue jumped to $16.3 billion in the six months ended June 30, from $1.1 billion a year earlier. Separately, Reuters reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that third-quarter revenue rose 45% from the previous quarter to $16.8 billion, although some investors were disappointed by the slowing pace of sequential growth.
The San Francisco-based company, maker of the Claude AI models, spent nearly $9 billion on computing capacity and infrastructure in the first half, up from $2.3 billion a year earlier.
IPO expected in November
Anthropic is expected to go public in November. Following the latest financial disclosures, some investors are now weighing a lower valuation of around $1.5 trillion, according to the reports.
