An unnamed official who spoke to the Associated Press (AP) claimed that artificial intelligence company Anthropic and US intelligence services jointly conducted a security test.
The official claimed that the test was conducted as part of trials aimed at protecting "the world's critically important software" from the "serious negative impacts on public safety, national security and the economy" that Anthropic's Mythos model could cause.
The official, who stated that during the test the Mythos model found some security vulnerabilities in the US government's computer systems containing top-level sensitive information within hours, claimed that this detection does not mean the system could be breached in the same amount of time.
Senator Warner's remarks
Democratic Senator Mark Warner, referring to these tests during a Senate session on June 11, said: "This tool got into almost all of our classified systems. Not weeks, but hours."
US administration's access ban
On June 13, the US administration decided to ban access by foreign governments, companies and individuals to Anthropic's "Fable 5" and "Mythos 5" artificial intelligence models, citing a "national security threat." Following this decision, Anthropic disabled its advanced AI models for all users.
