During the Monaco Grand Prix, Lance Stroll drew criticism from Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc after slowing down in the tunnel section. This moment in the race was highlighted by radio communications.
Stroll started qualifying 22nd on the streets of Monaco. On the second lap of the race, he nearly hit the wall and regained control at the last moment as he reported his car sliding to the left in the tunnel.
While Stroll laughed off the incident as he explained it to race engineer Andrew Vizard, the situation was very different for Antonelli, who was fighting for the lead.
Mercedes driver Antonelli had been increasing his pace from the start of the race, opening a gap ahead of the Ferraris. However, when he caught up to Stroll, overtaking was not as easy as expected.
On lap 50, as Antonelli approached the tunnel exit, he reacted strongly when Stroll did not yield, calling the Canadian driver a "real idiot." The young driver managed to pass Stroll only after exiting the tunnel but before reaching the Nouvelle chicane.
Shortly after, the same traffic blocked Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver requested a penalty for Stroll over the radio.
Stroll’s race ended on lap 57 when he crashed into the Antony Noghes outer wall. When asked if the track surface deterioration contributed to the incident, Stroll explained that the main cause was the motor brake problem he had experienced throughout the race.
The Canadian driver said the car pushed in some corners and pulled in others, indicating inconsistent system performance. He also described feeling as if the throttle pedal was partially stuck open in one of the final corners.
Meanwhile, at Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso moved into the top 10 thanks to a 10-second post-race penalty given to Sergio Perez, securing the team’s first points of the season. Alonso finished 10th in Monaco, earning the team a single point.
