Marc Marquez secured pole position in the qualifying rounds of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Ducati rider strengthened his claim for both today's sprint and tomorrow's race with an impressive performance at Balaton Park.
Despite sliding at the first corner early in Q2, the Spanish rider accelerated his lap in the final stages, beating his closest rival Pedro Acosta by 53 milliseconds. Although Acosta appeared to be the closest contender for pole position for much of the session on his KTM, Marquez's final laps shifted the balance.
Fermin Aldeguer took third place in qualifying with his Gresini Ducati. This result sparked discussions that Aprilia has yet to find the expected setup for this race.
Aprilia's best result came from the overall championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, who qualified sixth. Ahead of him were Fabio Di Giannantonio in fourth and Pecco Bagnaia in fifth.
Jorge Martin finished eighth with the second factory Aprilia, while Luca Marini completed the day in ninth place; Marini had advanced to Q2 by posting the second-best time in Q1 behind Bagnaia.
This outcome came amid ongoing questions about Marquez's physical condition. While he continues to recover from two surgeries, the Spanish rider once again demonstrated his strong single-lap pace.
It remains unclear how competitive the champion's race pace will be over the sprint and full race distance. Nevertheless, his performance at Balaton Park was one of the standout moments of the weekend.
