Kimi Antonelli finished as the fastest driver in the final free practice session ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix. The session was red-flagged due to a crash by Ollie Bearman, and only a few drivers managed to improve their times in the closing minutes.
Bearman hit the wall while taking the Massenet left corner slightly wider than usual. The impact caused damage to the rear of his Haas car; Bearman apologized over the radio, explaining the issue was due to the car bottoming out on the track surface.
This incident led to an approximately 11-minute pause for barrier inspection, interrupting most of the drivers’ final runs, which serve as a qualifying simulation.
Ferrari drivers unable to improve due to traffic
Antonelli had taken the lead with a lap just before the red flag. The Mercedes driver was 0.327 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton secured third place only 0.004 seconds behind his teammate.
Both Ferrari drivers were forced to set their best laps on their second set of soft tires. Leclerc was held up at the Rascasse exit, and Hamilton got caught in traffic at the chicane behind George Russell, preventing them from improving their times after the session resumed.
Leclerc expressed dissatisfaction, noting inconsistent braking behavior from the car on each attempt. Nevertheless, Antonelli was also faster than his rivals on the first tire set, and Mercedes showed improved pace compared to Friday.
Audi leads midfield, McLaren and Red Bull follow
George Russell finished fourth, with Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri right behind him. On the Audi side, Gabriel Bortoleto was seventh, and Nico Hülkenberg placed tenth, four positions behind.
Isack Hadjar, recovering from a crash in the first practice, managed eighth place while Lando Norris made up lost time after an electrical issue limited him to just eight laps in FP2, finishing ninth.
Esteban Ocon was eleventh, Carlos Sainz twelfth. Pierre Gasly outperformed other Alpine drivers to take thirteenth, while Franco Colapinto dropped to nineteenth after rear wing damage caused by contact with a barrier inside a corner.
Cadillac drivers face brake issues, Aston Martin lag behind
Liam Lawson struggled through both Swimming Pool chicanes but maintained control to finish fifteenth. Despite early brake overheating problems, Sergio Perez used a favorable pit exit after the red flag to climb to eighteenth.
Valtteri Bottas, the other Cadillac driver, also fell back to twentieth due to similar brake overheating. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll ended the day at the bottom of the standings.
The final practice session highlighted how tight the competition remains ahead of qualifying in Monaco. On the narrow street circuit, the combination of traffic, yellow flags, and red flags made finding a clean lap as crucial as setting the fastest time.
