Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday rejected U.S. claims that two members of Iran’s delegation to the UN General Assembly had been expelled from the United States. “All Iranian diplomats who attended UNGA, except one who departed earlier, left as scheduled,” Araghchi wrote on X.
“Taking pride in fake diplomat ‘expulsion’ is inappropriate for the head of any diplomatic corps. It oozes of desperation and defeat, and is inconsistent with UN host nation obligations,” he added.

U.S.: “Rubio means business”

Earlier, a U.S. official said two more members of the Iranian delegation had been found in New York long after the General Assembly ended. “Secretary Rubio means business. Two more members of the Iranian delegation were found still in New York long after the UNGA had passed. They have now been kicked out of the country,” the official said. According to Axios, U.S. authorities informed Iran’s UN mission on Friday that the two diplomats were still in New York and demanded that they leave immediately; one left that night and the other on Saturday morning.
The State Department had instructed Iran’s UN mission on Monday, Sept. 28, to ensure that its entire delegation left the country immediately after the General Assembly sessions ended. Iran’s UN mission said on Oct. 1 that its delegation left New York on Monday evening according to a schedule communicated to the State Department in advance on Sept. 17.
