Flooding in the Thai capital Bangkok has affected 329,000 households, or about 700,000 people, according to the Bangkok Flood Control Center. Floodwaters began slowly receding on Monday after continuous heavy rain over the weekend, though some neighborhoods and major roads remained inundated.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt declared a flood emergency across all 50 districts of the city on Saturday. Bangkok has received 320 millimeters of rain since September 24, and thousands of residents have been moved to evacuation centers. The city administration transferred about 1,500 bedridden patients to hospitals.
Eastern districts, including Lat Krabang, Bang Kapi, Khan Na Yao and Sai Mai, were among the hardest hit. The government declared Monday and Tuesday special holidays in Bangkok and the neighboring provinces of Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan.
