Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani will meet in New York next week. The meeting will take place during Sánchez’s visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting will take place at Gracie Mansion on September 23
According to Spain’s El País newspaper, Sánchez and Mamdani will attend an economic forum at Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the mayor of New York, on September 23, 2026.
The event is expected to last approximately 90 minutes and will be titled “Building an Economy for the Majority.” The program will be jointly organized by the Global Progress Foundation, chaired by Sánchez, and the New York City mayor’s office.

Economic policies on the agenda
The event is expected to focus on how economic growth can benefit broader segments of society, workers’ living conditions and economic inequality.
Mamdani has recently placed the cost of living and the economic conditions of working people at the center of his political agenda. In his latest interview with El País, he also argued that politics should improve the lives of working people.
The meeting will take place during Sánchez’s U.N. visit
Sánchez’s New York program coincides with his visit to the United States for the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting in New York will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.

The meeting is expected to extend beyond New York’s local agenda and convey broader political and economic messages, as Sánchez and Mamdani have similar political approaches on various international and economic issues.
