President Erdoğan will address the United Nations General Assembly for the 16th time. Erdoğan first attended the UN platform in 2005, when he was serving as prime minister.
Call for reform of the UN structure
In his 2005 and 2007 addresses, Erdoğan said a more democratic, transparent and effective United Nations needed to be established. Describing terrorism as a transnational crime against humanity in 2007, Erdoğan called on countries to cooperate internationally.
In his 2009 speech, Erdoğan called for reform of the UN structure and said the UN Security Council should also be included in the process. Erdoğan called for a fairer and more inclusive global order.

Palestine and regional issues
Addressing regional issues, particularly Syria, Libya, Somalia and Palestine, in his 2011 speech, Erdoğan said it was unacceptable to leave the Karabakh issue unresolved. He said timely solutions needed to be found for international issues.
At the UN General Assembly, which he addressed for the first time as president in 2014, Erdoğan criticized the influence of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council over the decision-making mechanism and said, "The world is bigger than five."

In his 2019 speech, Erdoğan described the problem of irregular migration through the photograph of baby Aylan, whose body washed ashore in Bodrum, and said millions of people had been displaced by war and poverty. He called on the international community to find a solution.
Participating in the UN General Assembly, held by video conference in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Erdoğan said the pandemic had demonstrated the inadequacy of global mechanisms. In 2021, he also drew attention to the risks of floods, hurricanes, droughts, fires and migration caused by climate change.

The Black Sea Grain Corridor and the TRNC
In 2022, Erdoğan outlined Türkiye's efforts regarding the Russia-Ukraine War, the Black Sea Grain Corridor and negotiations between the parties, saying that maintaining grain shipments was important for global food supplies.

He also called for diplomatic, political and economic ties to be established with the country.
In the same speech, Erdoğan emphasized that Karabakh is Azerbaijani territory and said he supported the negotiation process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Focus on Gaza and Palestine
Addressing the 79th UN General Assembly for the 14th time on September 24, 2024, Erdoğan called on the international community to stand against Israel's attacks and recognize the state of Palestine.
