At Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, the coaching staff is expected to temporarily oversee the team’s training sessions and matches due to head coach Vincent Kompany’s health. The 40-year-old Belgian coach fainted on Friday while watching the reserve team’s training session.
The club said Kompany had been taken to hospital and would undergo comprehensive medical checks. He will remain under medical observation during his treatment, while no timetable has been given for his return to the job.
Bayern management to continue medical support
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany’s health was the club’s top priority. Eberl said they would provide the Belgian coach with the medical support and time needed to recover.
Kompany previously suffered a viral infection
Kompany had recently missed some training sessions because of a viral infection and was absent from the press conference before the Arsenal match. The coach returned to the touchline when Bayern Munich drew 2-2 with Arsenal.

The Belgian coach had acknowledged that he ignored the warning signs his body was giving him during his illness. The cause of Friday’s fainting and when Kompany will return to his duties have not been announced.
Bayern Munich set to visit Freiburg
Bayern Munich are scheduled to face Freiburg away on Sunday in the Bundesliga. The team is expected to be managed by the coaching staff in that match.
