Microsoft's MAI-DxO, an artificial intelligence-assisted medical diagnostic system, was compared with doctors' results using past medical cases. Real physicians did not participate in the study, which was conducted in a simulated environment.
304 complex cases evaluated
The review was based on 304 complex cases published in The New England Journal of Medicine. The cases were evaluated by artificial intelligence agents.
Compared with doctors who used open sources such as books and the internet, MAI-DxO produced approximately 2.3 times more correct diagnoses.

In a comparison with doctors attempting to diagnose cases without using external sources, the system produced results that were approximately 3.7 times better.
Study conducted in a simulated environment
Details of the research were published in Science. Past medical cases were evaluated in a simulated environment, and real physicians were not included in the comparison.
