Capcom has officially announced the long-awaited Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake at Summer Game Fest 2026. The announcement marked a highly anticipated return for fans of the series.
The remake is said to preserve the original game's atmosphere while adapting it to modern gameplay. The camera perspective has shifted from fixed angles to an over-the-shoulder view, visuals have been updated, and gameplay mechanics have been refreshed.
The beloved chapter of the series returns
Resident Evil: Code Veronica was originally released in 2000 for the Sega Dreamcast. The game is one of the series' favorites, continuing the story of Claire and Chris Redfield following the Raccoon City outbreak.
The trailer highlighted scenes of Claire exploring a ruined apartment while searching for her missing brother. The game also includes a brief detail referencing Chris Redfield, followed by redesigned, tension-filled locations from the original game.
The new remake will also focus on Umbrella's expanding plans. The story will include encounters with Albert Wesker.
Surprise characters in the trailer
Wesker was not shown directly in the trailer. However, a brief scene hinted at a familiar enemy previously seen in the game.
This figure is speculated to be HUNK, though there is also a possibility it could be Rodrigo Juan Raval. The "Don't move" warning heard in the trailer is believed to be connected to this scene.
Capcom's recent remake strategy, which restructures the series, highlights Code Veronica as filling an important gap. The project is positioned as a critical link connecting the post-Raccoon City events to Umbrella's global expansion.
The game will be released in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
