Playskool has launched a new educational toy called "My First Hobo Camp" for children in California. The company explained that the set is designed to develop practical life skills through play, which are said to be useful when preparing for adulthood in the state.
Designed for children aged two and up, the colorful set includes a tent, a shopping cart missing one wheel, a stolen bicycle, and several discarded syringes. The product features elements that humorously depict life in California.
Playskool spokesperson Amanda Fletcher said the brand focuses on offering "big adventures for the smallest hobos." Fletcher noted that children can pretend to pitch a tent on a public sidewalk, rummage through trash bins, and explain at a city council meeting why they shouldn’t be moved from there.
The company also announced that this new product is the first step in a state-themed toy series that appeals to imagination. Similar sets for other states will be developed in the future.
Playskool CEO Julia Gomez mentioned they are working on a "My First Government Grocery Store" set featuring empty shelves for New York. Gomez also revealed plans for a "My First Jihad" set for Minnesota and a "My First Nazi Tattoo" set for Maine.
At the time of publication, it was reported that California officials plan to order four million units for use in public schools. However, delivery may be delayed as all toy stores have reportedly been looted by hobos.
