Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking to CNN on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders Summit held in Évian-les-Bains, France, shared his views on the reported agreement between the US and Iran.
Carney said he had seen the agreement and that it exceeded his expectations. He expressed Canada's strong satisfaction with the deal and emphasized its importance in reducing tensions in the region.
Prime Minister Carney noted that the agreement, which acts as a ceasefire for a 60-day period, is a reasonable timeframe and aims to end hostilities. He described the deal as a well-prepared arrangement within this context.
Carney also addressed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that Canada will provide support to the best of its ability.
The US-Iran agreement was previously announced by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi confirmed the deal, stating that the memorandum of understanding would be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
US President Donald Trump also declared that the peace agreement with Iran was finalized, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, and the US naval blockade would be lifted immediately.
Statements suggesting the agreement also covers Lebanon sparked debate in Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz asserted they would not withdraw from the areas they occupy in southern Lebanon.
