U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said three crude oil tankers belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were targeted.
CENTCOM said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had launched ballistic missiles at two U.S. warships patrolling regional waters. The U.S. vessels evaded the attack, according to the command.
CENTCOM said two Iranian tankers off Kharg Island were disabled, while another Iranian tanker in the Gulf of Oman was destroyed.
CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said the United States would not hesitate to destroy Iran’s limited and vulnerable oil fleet if necessary. Cooper said the U.S. message to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was clear, adding that firing on U.S. ships would bring a higher economic cost.
