The Federation of Turkish American Associations (TADF), which brings together Turkish associations in the United States, has appointed Cevdet Özdemir as its president. Elected in a vote featuring a single candidate and slate, Özdemir will lead the federation’s new administration during a term planned to last two years.
Özdemir took over the position from Gülay Aydemir, who served as president for four years. Thanking the previous administration, the new president said he viewed the responsibility not as an office but as a duty of service, unity, and solidarity.

Priorities of the new administration
During the federation’s new term, it aims to strengthen communication among associations operating in different states and reinforce the sense of unity within the Turkish American community. Thanking the members who supported him and the Turkish American community, Özdemir said a stronger structure should be built for future generations.
Increasing the participation of young people and women in the federation’s work, improving coordination among associations, and ensuring financial transparency are also among the priorities of the new term. The Turkish Cultural Center project is another item on the administration’s agenda, but details about its scope, financing, and timetable have not yet been announced.
Özdemir’s previous community work
Özdemir, who lives in New Jersey, previously served as president of the Association of Giresun Turks in America before becoming TADF president. In 2012, Özdemir took part as an association president in TADF’s events held as part of the New York Turkish Day Festival. That same year, following Hurricane Sandy, he shared his assessments of the situation of the Turkish community in New Jersey and New York.

This background provides a foundation for Özdemir to carry out his new role alongside his experience in civil society within the Turkish American community. TADF’s previous activities included the New York Turkish Day Festival, flag-raising ceremonies, contacts with community representatives, and solidarity initiatives.
TADF’s new term
TADF brings together Turkish associations operating in different states and cities across the United States and will continue its representation and coordination efforts under the new administration. During Özdemir’s two-year term, unity, communication, the participation of young people and women, and institutional transparency will shape the federation’s work.
