Turkey’s Consul General in Houston, Ahmet Akıntı, met with members of the Turkish community in Texas as he prepares to conclude his diplomatic assignment in the United States.
Akıntı visited the Houston Diyanet Mosque, affiliated with the Turkish American Religious Foundation (TARF), on September 11, 2026, as part of a series of farewell visits.
During the visit, the consul general met with members of the Turkish community and representatives of the mosque association.
The Turkish Consulate General in Houston thanked the board members of the TARF Houston Mosque association and members of the Turkish community for their warm welcome.
Nearly Three Years in Houston
Akıntı began serving as Turkey’s Consul General in Houston on August 1, 2023.
According to official records from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his tenure is scheduled to conclude on September 15, 2026, bringing more than three years of diplomatic service in Houston to an end.
During his tenure, the Consulate General worked with Turkish communities across a large area of the southern United States.
The Houston Consulate General’s jurisdiction extends beyond Texas and covers eight U.S. states: Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Building Bridges Between Turks and Americans
When Akıntı assumed office in 2023, he outlined strengthening relations between Turkey and the region as one of the mission’s main priorities.
His stated objectives included developing commercial, cultural, scientific and social ties, strengthening dialogue with American authorities and building new connections between Turkish and American communities.
Supporting Turkish citizens and improving access to consular services were also among the priorities outlined at the beginning of his tenure.
The Houston mission is particularly important because of the large geographic area under its responsibility and the presence of established Turkish-American communities throughout Texas and neighboring states.
Farewell Visit to Houston Diyanet Mosque
The September 11 visit brought Akıntı together directly with members of the community as his tenure approached its final days.
Houston Diyanet Mosque operates under the Turkish American Religious Foundation and serves as one of the gathering points for members of the Turkish and Muslim communities in the Houston area.
Photos shared following the visit showed Akıntı meeting community members and representatives of the organization.
The Consulate General described the meeting as part of Akıntı’s farewell visits and expressed appreciation to both the association’s leadership and Turkish citizens who attended.
Akıntı’s Houston Assignment Ends September 15

His departure will close a diplomatic assignment that began in the summer of 2023 and included engagement with Turkish-American organizations, local officials and Turkish citizens across the consulate’s eight-state jurisdiction.
The September 11 gathering at Houston Diyanet Mosque was among his final meetings with members of the Turkish community before the conclusion of his assignment.
