CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a federal lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his administration after their journalists were denied access to the White House.
The three news organizations filed the case in federal court in Washington on September 21, arguing that the restrictions violate the First Amendment’s protections for freedom of speech and the press, as well as due process protections under the Fifth Amendment.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico are asking the court to block the restrictions and restore their journalists’ access to the White House.

White House access revoked
Trump announced on September 18 that CNN, MS NOW and Politico would be barred from the White House, criticizing the organizations and describing them as “fake news.”
The outlets subsequently said their journalists were denied entry to the White House complex and had their press access revoked.
In a joint statement, the three organizations said they brought the lawsuit to defend the principle that the government cannot determine what news organizations report or publish.

News organizations seek court intervention
CNN, MS NOW and Politico are also seeking emergency court intervention to suspend the restrictions while the case proceeds.
The dispute has drawn attention from other major U.S. news organizations and renewed debate over White House press access and constitutional protections for journalists.
The Trump administration has defended its actions while continuing to criticize the coverage produced by CNN, MS NOW and Politico. The legal challenge will now determine whether the restrictions can remain in place.
