Delaware’s final state primary before the U.S. midterm elections, which will be held in November, concluded Tuesday. The results determined the parties’ nominees for the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives and state attorney general races.
In the Senate race, incumbent Senator Chris Coons defeated three challengers and won the Democratic nomination with 78 percent of the vote. Coons will face Republican nominee Mike Katz in the general election as he seeks to retain his Senate seat.
In the Republican primary, Katz defeated John Shulli by 77.4 percent to 22.6 percent.
Joe Armino won the Republican nomination in Delaware’s House of Representatives election district. Armino received 47.9 percent of the vote; when the results were announced, returns from 95 percent of polling places had been counted.
Armino’s opponent in the general election will be Democratic Representative Sarah McBride, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
In the state attorney general race, incumbent Kathy Jennings defeated two challengers and won the Democratic primary with 71.2 percent of the vote. Dave Graham secured the Republican nomination after running unopposed.
The U.S. midterm elections will be held on November 3.
