President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 36th NATO Summit in Ankara.
Presidential Communications Director Burhanettin Duran announced that the meeting at the Presidential Complex addressed the development of bilateral relations and the strengthening of cooperation in defense industry, trade, energy, and security.
Duran stated that Erdoğan once again demonstrated Turkey's determined diplomatic stance for regional peace and stability during the meeting. President Erdoğan called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, a dialogue-based solution to the Russia-Ukraine war, and progress in the Iran-U.S. track.
Defense industry cooperation was among the prominent topics of the meeting. Erdoğan and his wife Emine Erdoğan hosted a reception in honor of the leaders and their spouses attending the summit, reinforcing the friendly dialogue and spirit of solidarity among allies.
The Communications Director stated that Turkey, under the leadership of President Erdoğan, will continue to enhance cooperation with its allies and actively contribute to regional and international peace.
The 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government marked the second time Turkey has hosted a NATO summit, following the 2004 Istanbul Summit. The summit is significant in terms of the challenges facing the alliance and the global security system.
