The European Union will provide Ukraine with an additional €3.3 billion to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the funding following a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying the money will support the procurement of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Ukraine to Receive €3.3 Billion

Von der Leyen said the European Union will disburse €3.3 billion to Ukraine on September 18.
The funds will be used to support Ukraine’s procurement of missiles and drones as the country seeks to strengthen its defense capabilities.
Funding Comes Under €90 Billion Program
The new payment is being provided under the European Union’s €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan covering 2026 and 2027.
The program is designed to support both Ukraine’s budgetary needs and its defense capabilities.
A significant portion of the financing is intended to support Ukraine’s defense industry and military procurement.
Von der Leyen Speaks With Zelenskyy
The announcement came after a phone conversation between von der Leyen and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The two discussed financial assistance and efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense resilience.
Zelenskyy described the conversation with the European Commission president as “very productive.”

Air and Missile Defense Remains a Priority
The European Commission has also increased funding aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air and missile defense capabilities.
European support covers areas including air and missile defense systems, ammunition, unmanned aerial vehicles and electronic warfare equipment.
The EU is also continuing cooperation with Ukraine on the development of European defense technologies and air and missile defense capabilities.
