Former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has filed for divorce from her husband, Bryon Noem, after more than 34 years of marriage. The complaint was filed on Monday with the court in Hamlin County, South Dakota, on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

“Kristi Noem has filed for the dissolution of her marriage to Bryon Noem. She has great faith in the South Dakota judicial system and will reserve any further comments for the legal process,” her attorney, Michael K. Sabers, said.
The couple, who were high school sweethearts, married in 1992 and have three children and several grandchildren. Earlier this year, the Daily Mail published photos it said showed Bryon Noem in women’s clothing, along with allegations about online exchanges.

Noem, a former governor of South Dakota, served as Homeland Security Secretary until President Donald Trump dismissed her in March 2026. She has since been named special envoy to the “Shield of the Americas” initiative.
