New footage shows the US Air Force’s B-21 Raider, the country’s newest stealth bomber, in flight over California.
The aircraft, built by Northrop Grumman, is undergoing flight testing at Edwards Air Force Base in California’s Mojave Desert. The B-21 made its first flight on November 10, 2023, from the company’s facility in Palmdale, and a second test aircraft joined the program in September 2025.
In March, a B-21 completed a close-proximity flight of about 5.5 hours with a KC-135 Stratotanker near Edwards. “This flight is part of the ongoing, rigorous test campaign to validate the B-21’s capabilities and operational readiness,” the Air Force said. In April, the Air Force released photos of the bomber being refueled in flight by a KC-135.
The Air Force plans to buy at least 100 B-21s to replace its aging B-1 and B-2 bombers. The first operational aircraft are scheduled to arrive at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota in 2027, and the bomber will later also be based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri and Dyess Air Force Base in Texas.
