Todd Lyons, former acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has begun a consultancy role at a company operating in the defense and security sector.
The company announced that in his new position, Lyons will work on U.S. domestic defense strategy, interagency operations, and international security issues. He will hold the title of senior vice president.
Due to federal regulations, Lyons will be prohibited from contacting the Department of Homeland Security for one year. Lyons did not respond to requests for comment from the press.
The company where Lyons took his new role stated that it does not engage in lobbying activities and that its operations are limited to defense and security consulting.
The company Lyons will work for operates as a subsidiary of a major lobbying group. The parent company's clients include General Motors, the New York Jets, and GEO Group, which operates immigrant detention centers nationwide.
Lyons served as acting director of ICE from March 2025 to May 2026. During his tenure, the agency implemented some of the Trump administration's strict immigration policies in the field.
Extensive operations were conducted in Chicago and Minneapolis during this period. The White House's daily target of 3,000 detentions created pressure, but this goal was not met.
David Venturella, who previously worked within ICE, was appointed to replace Lyons. Venturella most recently served as senior vice president of client relations at GEO Group and later as a paid consultant.
It was reported that GEO Group earned $254 million in revenue in 2025, representing a 700% increase compared to 2024.
