The US Wildland Fire Service announced that another firefighter injured in the wildfire that started in late June on the border between Colorado and Utah has died. With this loss, the number of firefighters killed in the fire has risen to four.
In a statement, the agency said, "This is another heartbreaking loss for the wildland firefighting family."
According to initial findings, three firefighters who deployed their emergency fire shelters to protect themselves from the flames died at the scene, and two others were injured. One of the injured later died in hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to four.
In late June, dry conditions, a heat wave and erratic winds caused wildfires to spread rapidly across many states, including Colorado and Utah.
