French President Emmanuel Macron made a move that left behind the US-led international isolation policy during his visit to Syria. More than 16 strategic cooperation agreements were signed between the two countries, covering critical sectors such as energy, infrastructure, economy, aviation, transportation and investment.
A representative from the Syrian Foreign Ministry described Macron's visit to Damascus as a "historic turning point" in bilateral relations. The official stated that the visit produced concrete results in political, economic and investment fields.
The Syrian representative emphasized that the signed agreements are a sign of mutual trust, and stated that these steps will create new cooperation opportunities in economic, investment and development fields. The official said that this process shows Syria is moving into a new phase of international partnership based on mutual interest and respect.
The representative also touched on the two bomb attacks that occurred during the visit, noting that despite these acts, state institutions managed the situation effectively and the visit's program and objectives were not affected. The representative stressed that the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks will be brought to justice.
"Justice will certainly hold accountable the terrorist hands that want neither stability for Syria nor for the world," the Syrian official said, adding that terrorist acts cannot stop the country's reconstruction process and its opening to the outside world.
