A hidden method to directly access Siri's AI-powered writing tools in Apple's macOS operating system has been discovered. Reddit user 'pdfu' shared this method, which works on the latest beta versions of macOS Golden Gate (macOS 27).
According to AppleInsider, with this new method users no longer need to right-click on text and open the context menu. Instead, thanks to a feature activated by two Terminal commands, a Siri icon appears on the screen whenever any text is selected. Clicking this icon provides instant access to AI tools such as spelling correction, rewriting, and phrasing review.
Activation via Terminal Commands
To enable the feature, the following commands, which require administrator privileges and the system password, are used:
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain &&
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool true
Those who want to disable the feature can run the following command:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/WritingTools LightweightUI_macOS -dict Enabled -bool false
This new lightweight interface does not replace the existing writing tools; it merely adds a faster way to access them. The traditional right-click method continues to work as well.
According to a separate report by MacRumors, Apple is considering using this lightweight user interface in the final AI-powered version of Siri. The company plans to integrate Siri AI into all its systems alongside new iPhone models in September.
Apple's AI push has faced various delays since CEO Tim Cook's initial announcement in 2024. Whether the new features will be included in the stable release has not yet been officially confirmed.
